ÁREA RESTRITA

In Foucault's words, unlike utopias — places without a real place, where everything seems perfect — heterotopias are places separate from society that manage to superimpose, in a single space, several spaces, relating places that by themselves would be incompatible.

ÁREA RESTRITA develops around Francisco Sá Carneiro airport (Porto), immediately outside the grid that delimits the entire area. Not accessible as a public space, entering this space involves a series of rituals that go beyond security measures: it implies, above all, entering a space-time in which mobility prevails. A place of transition, in which it does not matter where we are exactly as long as we continue to move, establishing multiple layers of relationships between spaces. Even if the reality of the outside opposes and tries to adapt to it, at a slow pace, the grid imposes itself, constantly reminding us of these procedures that prevent us from entering.
