ESTRATO EXTRATO
Estrato Extrato was the culmination of 3 different moments of artistic residency in Mondim de Basto, in the summer of 2019, ending the first Simpósio do Granito de Mondim de Basto. The piece is divided into several modules, composed of a stone fragment and an iron rod, plus a larger one, in the centre, with stairs carved towards Mount Farinha, which represents it. Each module refers to a parish in the municipality of Mondim de Basto, either by the stone used (taken from the respective parish) or by its position in space in relation to the hill. The rods form structures inspired by the symbols of rock engravings found in the region. In this way, the municipality's map become physically fulfilled. Going up to the central module, Mount Farinha, you get a different perspective of the piece.
Each piece removed is accompanied by an intervention with lime in the landscape, marking its negative space.
